“Volunteerism is the voice of the people put into action.  These actions shape and mold the present into a future of which we can all be proud.”

– Helen Dyer

Some Reasons to Volunteer:

1.Meet new people and build community

2. Build self confidence and self esteem

3. Gain a sense of purpose

Below are some of the local organizations that have volunteer opportunities.

If you would like your Denville based service organization to be listed on our page, please reach out to [email protected].

AARP Tax-Aide Logo

AARP Tax-Aide

AARP provides free tax help at the Denville town hall each year by appointment. Many low, moderate and middle income people in Northern New Jersey, especially those 60 and older, need help preparing their annual taxes. Volunteer with AARP Foundation, Tax-Aide. Help those in need to get all of the deductions and credits they deserve and only pay in taxes their fair share. You do not need to be a senior or a member of AARP to volunteer, just someone wanting to help others. Training is provided in late Fall / Early Winter and taxes are prepared in February thru April 15. You don’t need any prior tax experience – just a willingness to participate. Everyone preparing taxes undergoes certification thru an IRS testing process. In Morris County for the 2022 tax year, 50 volunteers volunteering at 9 different sites prepared and e-filed more than 1,400 federal tax returns, a comparable number of state tax returns and Senior Freeze Act returns (PTR’s) and answered more than 125 inquiries.

Denville Beautification Committee

Denville Beautification Committee

The Beautification Committee was established to stimulate the love of gardening, to provide education and resources about gardening, to aid in the protection of native plants and trees, and to work for the preservation of Denville Township’s beauty.

Volunteers meet on Saturday mornings to do some planting, weeding, pruning or mulching in a particular garden. During the summer months, the group also meets on Wednesday evenings to get a little more work done around town. It is also the aim to educate and inspire the volunteers while we work. Volunteering with DBC will give you a chance to connect socially with other volunteers, share your gardening skills and be involved with the activities of the township. A little of your time goes a long way.

New members are always welcome! The committee meetings are held every 2nd Wednesday of every month at 7 pm in town hall.

Reach out to Irene Stefanacci at 973-625-8300 x 290 or email her at [email protected] for more information.

Denville C.E.R.T.

CERT is the Community Emergency Response Team for disaster preparedness. A Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a volunteer program that educates and trains citizens to respond effectively during disasters when professional responders may be overwhelmed. CERT members learn basic disaster response skills, including fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, disaster medical operations, and collecting disaster intelligence to support first responders. The program emphasizes safety, responsibility, and efficiency, enabling volunteers to assist their communities without putting themselves at unnecessary risk. CERT began in 1985 in Los Angeles after officials studied earthquake preparedness in Japan and has since expanded nationwide, with over 2,700 programs and more than 600,000 trained volunteers.

Denville String Band

The Denville String Band is northern New Jersey’s only Mummers-style band.  It is in its 75th year entertaining people at parades and concerts.  The Band plays traditional music from Tin Pan Alley through the 1960s with a sprinkling of newer songs.  Band members are all ages from high-school to retired and come from all over Morris County.  The Band owns its own clubhouse at 10 Station Rd. in Denville where the band rehearses Monday nights from 7:30 pm-9:00 pm, stores instruments and equipment, and holds social events.  There is no charge to be in the Band.

We are looking for volunteer musicians: saxophone, banjo/guitar, and accordion and non musicians to help with our organization from high school to retired and everyone in between. We are flexible with the commitment needed for our organization. Some members come to every rehearsal, concert and parade and others attend when their schedule allows.

You can reach us by filling out the contact form, calling 973-453-5537 or emailing [email protected]  or just come to a rehearsal Monday night at 7:30 at the band house to sit and listen or just join us with your instrument. Just call first since sometimes we are performing on a Monday night.
