To many, holding a door open for a woman, or spreading one’s coat over a puddle, are examples of “chivalry.” It has been presented as such in movies and cartoons for several generations. However, what did the term chivalry really mean in its original, Medieval context? This lecture will explore how chivalry developed, changed, and was reinterpreted throughout the Middle Ages. Lecture presented by Professor Alexander Clemente.
