If Candy Land and Chutes & Ladders are no longer a challenge, join us for Grown up Gaming.  Try out games such as Gloom, Bards Against Humanity, and Texas Hold ‘em or bring a favorite from home.  Bring a friend or come alone.  Light snacks provided.

October Computer Classes

Below are the computer classes we will be offering for the month of October. Please note that registration is required for all programs. To register, click on the event below each class description, and then choose RSVP – YES

 

Intermediate Word
This class picks up where Word Basics left off.  In this class, you will learn how to change the default paragraph spacing, insert clip art and word art, use symbols, and create tables & columns.

Prerequisites:  Must have previously taken MS Word Basics.

September  14. The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry.  Rachel Joyce.  Harold Fry is convinced that he must deliver a letter to an old love in order to save her. On his journey, he meets various characters and reminisces about the events and people from his past, as he tries to find peace and acceptance.

*** DATE CHANGE***  MONDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2016 at Tuscan Table (28 Diamond Spring Rd, Denville, NJ 07834) Beautiful Ruins.  Jess Walter .  Follows a young Italian innkeeper and his almost-love affair with a beautiful American starlet, which draws him into a glittering world filled with unforgettable characters.

November 9.  ***CHANGE IN TITLE! *** For November, we will be reading on a theme.  All members are free to choose a book on the theme of FAMILY.  Each member will present their book and how it relates to the theme.  If you need suggestions for a title, please contact Ilene Lefkowitz at the library for suggestions.

December  14.  Interpreter of Maladies.  Jhumpa Lahiri.  A collection of nine short stories by Indian American author Jhumpa Lahiri about the lives of Indians and Indian Americans who are caught between the culture they have inherited and the “New World.”

Backpack Kits FAQ

The Denville Library will begin circulating Backpack Kits.  There are three backpack kits: Astronomy, Geocaching and Hiking.

How long does each backpack go out for? 

Each backpack will circulate as a unit for one week.

Who can take one out?

Limited currently to Denville Cardholders over 18 with no blocks on their cards

Can I place one on hold?

Backpacks may be placed on hold by Denville cardholders over 18 only

How do I return it?

Backpacks MUST be returned in person to Denville Public Library

Is there a late charge?

A late charge of $5.00 per day will be charged for each day the pack is late.

What’s in the backpacks?

Each backpack has books related to the topic, a first aid kit, a journal to share your experiences, a safety whistle and a bear bell.

  • Geocaching kit also contains a handheld GPS unit, binoculars, a flashlight and a magnifying glass to help you find those tricky caches!
  • The Astronomy kit also contains a starscope, a star chart and a red flashlight.
  • The Hiking kit also contains a compass and trail maps.

What happens if I lose a piece?

Replacement costs for individual items will be given if needed.

 

Backpacks for an afternoon/evening of activity now available at the Denville Public Library!

Curious about hiking?  Geocaching?  Astronomy or Birdwatching?  Don’t have the equipment or necessary tools?  The Denville Library is happy to announce that we have backpack kits ready for Denville residents to borrow filled with almost all you will need to go birdwatching, stargazing, hiking or geocaching!  Each backpack contains items one would need such as binoculars for birdwatching, a handheld GPS unit for geocaching, a compass and trail maps for hiking and a starscope and star chart for stargazing. Each kit comes with related books, safety whistles, bear bells and first aid kits along with a journal to share your experience with other community members.  Backpack kits circulate for one week and must be returned to the Denville Public Library.  FAQs can be found here.

Who may borrow a pass?  

Adults with a Denville Library card in good standing with no outstanding fines or fees  may borrow Museum passes.  Passes can only be picked up by the person who made the reservation.  Passes may not be picked up by other family members.

Loan Period

Passes are loaned for three days.  One pass per household at any given time.  Passes may NOT be renewed.

How Do I reserve a pass?

Call or come into the Denville Library and stop at the Circulation Desk.  You must have your Library Card present to reserve a pass.

How often may I reserve a pass?

You may reserve one pass per museum per 90 day period.  During Denville School vacation periods you may be limited to a maximum number of pass reservations during a specific week.   Only one pass may be reserved per family for the same day.

Can I cancel my reservation

Pass reservations may be canceled up to one day in advance over the phone or in person.  If a pass has already been picked up, it must be returned to the Denville Public Library upon cancelling the reservation. Same day cancellations will result in a 30 day waiting period to reserve another Museum Pass.

When may I pick up my reserved pass?

You may pick up your pass either the day before your reservation or the day of your reservation.  You MUST have your library card in order to pick up a museum pass.

When and how must I return a pass?

Museum Passes must be returned to the Denville Library before 12 noon on the next day that the Library is open.  Passes may NOT be left in the book drop.

What if I return it late or if I lose it?

If passes are not returned on time, the fine per day is $5.00.  In the case of a lost pass, patrons will be charged for a new pass at the current rate of membership.
