CANCELLED - Judges: What are they good for?

on Mon, 01/20/2014 - 11:31am

** THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN CANCELLED FOR FEB 10. WE WILL RESCHEDULE IT IN THE SPRING! **

How much do you know about the role that the local, state and federal judiciary plays in government? If what you know about judges comes from that time you contested a traffic ticket in court, or from Judge Judy on TV, you might be surprised at how little you know! Interested in learning more? As part of the Benchmarks Civics Project, we’re delighted to have a real live judge come to the library to discuss law, the government, and the judge’s role in the process.

Philip J. Maenza, JSC has been a Superior Court Judge since January of 2010.  Before his appointment he served as a Municipal Court Judge for over 20 years in East Hanover, Mt. Olive, Dover, and Chester Twp, along with several other towns in Morris County.

Judge Maenza has been a council person in East Hanover and served on the East Hanover Board of Education as well as many township boards.  At the present time he is assigned to the Family Division of the court system, dealing primarily with divorces.

The Benchmarks Civics Project is offered to the citizens of New Jersey in conjunction with the New Jersey Bar Association and the Administrative Office of the Courts. This free program will be held in the Denville Library Theatre at 7:00 pm on Monday, February 10th. Please sign up below for this free program!
