Downloadable Audiobooks About Downloadable audiobooks are digital versions of audiobooks that are available through the Internet. Audiobooks can be played on any desktop or laptop computer that runs Windows 2000 or XP and supports Windows Media Player version 9.0 and above. You can also transfer your favorite titles to a wide range of portable devices such as music players, media centers, Pocket PCs and even select smartphone devices. Unfortunately, the iPod and Mac do not currently support copyright-protected Microsoft Windows Media Audio (WMA) files. Libraries are hopeful that Apple and Microsoft will reach an agreement to allow this. At this point, no company offers library circulation of downloadable audiobooks in the iPod format.
